Details: 2 volumes, in-12°
Notes: Attribution - sourced from the putative author, only extant edition available at time STN traded in work. N.B. The authorship of this complex work, and whether it is a genuine biography, has been subject to some doubt. Martin et al, 'Bibliographie du genre romanesque', note that Michaud uses it as a major source for his biographical article on Monnet, but they refrain from naming Monnet as the author. They also note that regardless of the authenticity of the memoirs, they deserve to be included in their bibliography of fictional works because at vol. 2, pp. 107-288 of the 1772 edition there is a 'romanesque work' entitled 'Les mystifications du Sr P***' which tells of the adventures of a 'comedien'. The fact that this book is sourced from Monnet himself is suggestive evidence concerning its authorship.
