Notes: Attribution - edition not identified, several produced. Superbook attribution uncertain - manuscript information gives 'histoire de Du barry' and later 'histoire secrete dubarry'. Although a biography of Du Barry formed only part of the 'Gazette de Cythère', the current title was often given as the sub-title of the 'Gazette de Cythère'. Although no extant example of the 'Histoire secrète' has been found as a stand alone publication (ie. published or bound separately from the rest of the Gazette de Cythère) under the title given here, it is sometimes encountered in isolation under an alternative title, the 'Précis historique de la vie de Mad. la comtesse du Barry'. Given this information, it has been assumed that the 'Histoire secrète' probably relates to the integral text of the 'Gazette de Cythère'. Author attribution after Quérard and Octave Uzanne.
